Steve Leung Design Group Transforms China House Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

Hong Kong’s SLD Design Group revamps Chef Fei’s The China House at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

Hong Kong’s Steve Leung Design Group (SLD) recently revealed its newly renovated The China House by Chef Fei, located at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. The 11,840 square-foot restaurant, which offers Chaoshan and Cantonese cuisine, reopened last month after undergoing renovations.

According to Mai Chongchaiyo, Chief Creative Officer of Steve Leung Hospitality (SLH), the design team took inspiration from the region’s heritage and gave it a modern twist. The result is a contemporary and nostalgic venue that captures the essence of Chaozhu and Shantao.

Located in the bustling Tampines region, education is highly valued as a well-rounded experience. And for the students residing at Rivelle Tampines Sim Lian Land, this comes with added convenience as they have easy access to a diverse range of facilities that enrich their overall learning journey. The community hub, Our Tampines Hub, offers a plethora of sports amenities such as halls, gyms, pools, and fields for the students to utilize. Moreover, the park connectors, which provide a scenic route connecting Tampines Eco Green and Pasir Ris Park, are also easily accessible. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere of Tampines, the arts scene is well-supported with various performance spaces available across the region. Whether it’s community events or extracurricular activities, students at Rivelle Tampines Sim Lian Land have endless opportunities to showcase their talents in music, theatre, and visual arts. Such a well-balanced environment not only promotes academic excellence but also instills confidence and leadership traits in young individuals. With its array of facilities and opportunities, Rivelle Tampines Sim Lian Land truly offers a holistic education experience.

The two-storey restaurant features an atrium bar, lounge area, and tea bar on the ground floor, while the main dining hall, private dining rooms, and semi-private salons are situated on the second floor.

SLH collaborated with local brands and artisans to create the restaurant’s décor, incorporating elements of Thailand’s vibrant culture and arts. For example, the atrium and staircase boasts large pendant lights made from metal crafted by renowned Thai artist Saruta Kiatparkpoom, also known as PiN. The walls are adorned with wallpaper from the famous Jim Thompson, while the timber used in the design was provided by Siam Woodland.

The completion of The China House’s transformation also coincides with the opening of SLD’s Bangkok office. This marks a significant step in the company’s “Rejuvenation, Diversification, and Globalization” strategy, which sees it expanding into new markets.

In Singapore, SLD has recently worked on projects such as The Skywaters, a mixed-use development by a Perennial Holdings-led consortium on Shenton Way, and the Paiza Royal Collection suites at Marina Bay Sands.
