Dubai maintains its position as the leading destination for executive nomads, according to the Savills Executive Nomad Index. This is the second consecutive year that Dubai has claimed the top spot, with Abu Dhabi closely following in second place. The index also reveals Malaga in third place, followed by Miami and Lisbon, showcasing the growing appeal of these locations for remote business leaders.
The Savills Executive Nomad Index ranks 30 destinations based on their desirability and accessibility for long-term remote workers. Destinations are evaluated on internet speed, air connectivity, climate stability, prime residential market prices, and overall quality of life, with the combined total determining the overall ranking.
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai scores highly for its expansive flight network, while Abu Dhabi ranks first for internet speed. These factors, in addition to tax efficiency, lifestyle, safety, and ease of doing business, make the UAE the top pick for executive nomads, according to Andrew Cummings, head of Savills Residential Agency in the Middle East. He adds, “In an increasingly mobile global employment market, the executive nomad has emerged as a unique and influential group of remote-working professionals. Enabled by technology, these individuals, often business founders, senior managers, or entrepreneurs, seek out locations that offer both connectivity and quality of life.”
This year, the Savills Executive Nomad Index has expanded to include locations that were not previously covered but now offer visa routes for long-term remote workers, such as Tokyo (11th place) and Berlin (28th place). These cities are important economic centers and vibrant cultural hotspots, according to Savills.
Other cities that have been added to the index include Vancouver (18th place) and Auckland (9th place), both of which are significant regional business hubs. Kelcie Sellers, associate director of Savills World Research, explains, “The landscape for executive nomads is changing, with countries like Canada and New Zealand now offering long-term visitor visas that allow for fully remote employment during an individual’s stay.”
